Blackhawks, Blue Jackets Make Blockbuster Move

Chicago Sends Panarin, Motte to Columbus for Saad

The Chicago Blackhawks have traded star left wing Artemi Panarin to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a blockbuster deal that also includes forward Tyler Motte and a sixth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. In return, the Blackhawks receive forward Brandon Saad.

The trade was announced on Friday, June 23, and is considered one of the biggest moves of the offseason. Panarin, who was signed by Chicago as a free agent from the Kontinental Hockey League in 2015, had a breakout season in 2016-17, scoring 31 goals and adding 44 assists.

Saad, who was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in 2011, returns to Chicago after two seasons with the Blue Jackets. He had 24 goals and 22 assists in 74 games last season.
